Ethan

Update November 27, 2001

OK, 20 days later, maybe that's a little long.  Many things have happened since the last update, so where do I begin???  Well, Ethan had his first Thanksgiving in the time since I've last updated.  It was a rousing success.  He and I got to spend some serious time together at home with the dog.  OK, it is much MUCH harder than I had ever thought.  I can't imagine how people can stay home with their infants and retain their sanity, but I guess we learn.  He is at the point right now where he wants to get into everything but doesn't have the ability to get there.  He continues to roll over when it suits him, but most of the time he spends his time trying to figure out how to get to the places where he can get in more trouble.  So far he has figured out how to turn circles and to scoot backwards.  I am starting to fear the day that he finally puts it together and gets moving forward...

Ethan continues to be a wonderful training tool for the pediatrician.  He has come down with more sicknesses than any kid I've ever known, although I've known none as well as Ethan.  He has recently stopped taking an antibiotic for an ear infection that he had, and also has just gotten off some medication for thrush.  No more than a week after we took him off of those meds, though, his eye turns up with a bunch of crap in it and is sticking shut.  Turns out he has pink eye which he got from daycare.  You have to love daycare!!!  Hopefully some day in the future, Ethan will be sickness free, but until then, my insurance company will continue to appreciate us!

Ethan has had his 6 month pictures taken in the last couple of weeks.  They were wildly successful.  We took him and Barley to the mall to get their pictures taken together, and they both were wonderful subjects.  Barley actually sat still for awhile and Ethan smiled and looked right at the camera.  The pictures are precious.  Of course, at one point Barley tried to escape into the mall, but was thwarted by a heads up patron at the front of the picture studio.  Once we started feeding her Altoids, she sat very still, though.

Ethan continues to grow and learn new things.  At his last appointment he was 27 inches long and weighed 18 pounds 12 ounces.  He is eating pretty much everything now, well, baby food anyway.  He actually prefers vegetables to fruits but loves to put anything in his mouth.  His personal favorite toy is paper.  Anytime somebody has paper within arm reach, he will grab it and jam it in his mouth.  He also still loves Barley.

That's about it for now.  Hopefully next time I will have more information and bring it back in a more timely fashion.
