Ethan

Updated August 16, 2002

Wow, that was a long time!!!  Well, since the last time, Ethan has done a lot of new stuff, so I obviously can't go through them all, but I'll try.

Teeth

Ethan has 10 now and the stubs of a couple more are starting to come through.  You can tell that he is getting more teeth because he is drooling incessantly.

Walking

Yes, Ethan is still walking.  I think I included that in my last update, but it was so long ago, I have forgotten.  Anyway, he has walked since the day after he turned 11 months, and hasn't stopped since then. Although, now he runs more than he walks.  He has become quite agile while walking and chooses it over crawling in all instances, unless he is trying to get away from Jenny or myself.

Climbing

This is one of the most amazing things I've seen...  Ethan climbs onto everything.  It started by him climbing onto the rocking chair in his room.  He loves to sit in big chairs, just like that Gilda Radner skit.  Anyway, he just puts his belly on the seat and lifts his leg up onto it.  He has progressed to climbing onto anything he can reach at chest level or below.  His favorite things to climb now are dining room tables and Grandpa's tractor (both Grandpa's have lawn tractors and you can't keep him off of them).

Talking

I'm told that not all kids talk at this age, but you wouldn't know it listening to Ethan.  Of course, for the most part, you don't know what the hell he's saying...  Ethan talks constantly.  You can't shut him up!!!  Mostly he says "mama," a name that he's adopted for everyone he meets and wants to go to.  I think it's the new generation's "dude."  In another 15 years, everybody will be calling everybody else "mama."  Ethan the trendsetter...  Anyway, he also says things like "sit" to any dog while pointing to the ground, "dada" although to nobody in particular, and the list goes on.  His favorite word by far is "outside," which he pronounces either "side" or "d-dide" while pointing to the door or grabbing the door handle.  He loves to be outside, and Jenny and I are nervous for when winter comes...  He gets very cranky if we don't go "d-dide" when he wants to.

Miscellaneous

Ethan still loves Barley, but the love isn't reciprocated quite to his level.  Don't get me wrong, Barley is still great with Ethan, but she can get grumpy.  I guess I would too if I had this 15 month old toddler biting me and pulling my hair.  She's a good sport, though.

Which brings me to another point.  Biting.  Ethan is the biter in class.  It's amazing that he has such a temper already at this age, but I suppose that comes from his mother (it has nothing to do with his Irish genes from his father, or his father's, father's family).  If something doesn't go his way, one of his first instincts is to bite the person that is offending him.  We're trying to break him of that, but haven't been completely successful to date.

Pictures

No pictures this time.  We failed to get them online from Wal-Mart after the last couple of rolls, but we should have more next week.  I will be sure to post them.

Until next time...
