EthanOK, yes, it's shameful, and I'm a terrible parent because of it. I haven't updated in almost two whole months. A lot can happen in that amount of time, so I'll spare all of the details.
Ethan now has 7 teeth and appears to be working on the eighth as we speak. His drooling occasionally subsides, so we're pretty sure that will stop before he goes to school. He now has four teeth on the top and three on the bottom.
We've been in the mobile stage for over three months now, and we've survived to this point. Ethan's favorite thing to do is to pretty much do anything I tell him he shouldn't do. As soon as I put him down, he generally heads either straight for the stairs or straight for the dog's bowl. I've asked him not to do both. Of course he derives great pleasure from disobeying me. I can't wait until he's a teen-ager!!! This past weekend we were at Grandpa and Grandma Tibbett's house, where they have a built-in china-like cabinet at floor level complete with glass doors and old china within. Ethan found that he rather enjoyed slapping the glass with his hand, and did it quite often and loudly. I saw him do this, so I went over and moved him away and explained to him that he shouldn't do that any more. Of course, he crawled right back over to the cabinet and continued to hammer on it. After a couple more attempts at explaining that he shouldn't do that, I finally gave in and decided to sit in front of the cabinet. He was not to be beaten, though, as he just stood up on me instead and reached around to hammer at the glass!!!
Ethan
continues to love Barley. He is especially a tease to her. He loves
to offer her food, and then take it away just before she is able to get it out
of his hands. The most amazing thing is that he actually knows enough to
give her a piece occasionally to keep her coming back. Otherwise he
figures she might not come back for more. Smart and devious child!!!
Jenny and I spent our first full week away from Ethan since his birth. It was very hard on both of us, but we managed. It was pretty nice to not have responsibility for a week, but we both missed him like crazy. Ethan spent equal amounts of time between his two sets of grandparents, who loved the opportunity. Most importantly, it gave Ethan a full 11 days away from daycare in order to get fully recovered from his various daycare related illnesses. Of course, now he's been back in daycare for a week again and he seems to have developed a little cough. At this point, though, it doesn't even bother us anymore. We've finally come to grips with what millions of parents before us must have figured out already, our child will not be 100% healthy all of the time. In fact, he may never be 100% healthy. As long as he continues to be happy, that is good enough for me.
Like I've said in the past, I will make a whole-hearted effort to get this update more frequent. I'm sure when Ethan first starts walking, there will be a nice big chunk of stuff to say, along with pictures and the like.
